The National Horse Racing Museum is situated in the middle of Newmarket. It is a historic 5-acre site incorporating the remains of Charles II’s racing palace, two stable yards, paddocks, and an arena. The site includes a museum of the history and science of horseracing, an art gallery of sporting art, retired racehorses, a café, and a shop. The Marketing Assistant will be part of the team who promotes the museum and its activities to engage audiences; to encourage new and repeat visits, and to raise income to help ensure a sustainable future for the site.

Maintenance Assistant

Part time

The Maintenance Assistant will be part of the team who looks after the buildings, grounds, and displays. The Maintenance team works to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the site so that all visitors have a welcoming and enjoyable experience.

The Maintenance Assistant will be responsible for helping with maintenance tasks, such as gardening, painting, and preparation of spaces for exhibitions. They will be required to understand and uphold guidance on health and safety. There will also be opportunities to get involved with other aspects of the museum for example helping out at events.

Visitor Services Assistant

Part time

The Visitor Services team is responsible for providing excellent customer service ensuring that all visitors have a welcoming and enjoyable experience.

The Visitor Services Assistant will be responsible for helping to deal with visitor enquiries in person and on the phone; operate the till and issue tickets; promote the museum offer to visitors; and ensure the cleanliness, safety, and security of the site. There will also be opportunities to get involved with wider aspects of the museum for example helping out at events.

Equine Assistant

Part time

The Equine Care team looks after the day-to-day running of the yard and ensures the care and wellbeing of our resident horses. They introduce the visitors to the horses, provide behind-the-scenes tours and promote the work of the Retraining of Racehorses charity.

The Equine Assistant will be responsible for basic stable management, such as cleaning and tidying boxes; assisting with the care of horses pre-and post-exercise (tacking up, washing off); engaging visitors with the horses and the work of the yard; and providing behind the scenes tours for groups.

Marketing Assistant

Part time

The Marketing team is involved with the production of marketing materials, digital marketing including the website and social media, organizing events, managing supporter schemes and signage.

The Marketing Assistant will be responsible for helping to identify areas of opportunity in company growth, conduct competitor analysis, create multi-channel marketing campaigns, undertake website development and maintenance, and work with local media to raise awareness of the museum.

Front of House and Kitchen Staff

Part time

The Tack Room is looking to hire personable and outgoing front of house and kitchen staff to join our team. Competitive rates of pay and flexible working hours are offered and you will be expected to work on some weekends. Experience is not always necessary as you will be offered on the job training.
