The Palace House Estate is a 5-acre site in the heart of Newmarket. It comprises three complementary attractions; National Horseracing Museum in the Trainer’s House and King’s Yard Galleries, Packard Galleries of British Sporting Art in Palace House, and a chance to meet former racehorses in the flagship home of Retraining of Racehorses. We have a fabulous restaurant and gift shop onsite and visits can take from 3 hours to a full day, and sometimes even more…!
Palace House occupies the last remaining part of King Charles II’s sporting palace and stables, providing an exciting attraction which is steeped in history. Paintings by George Stubbs and Sir Alfred Munnings rub shoulders with works from John Singer Sargent and John Wootton showcasing the finest British sporting art from around the UK
The King’s Yard, part of the National Horseracing Museum, is an opportunity to explore behind-the scenes of the horse racing world. Your visit will not be complete without riding a winner on our famous racehorse simulator!
The Rothschild Yard, built by Leopold de Rothschild in 1903, has been returned to its former glory to stable retrained racehorses. Four galleries in the yard explain the work of the Retraining of Racehorses charity and visitors will be able to meet former racehorses. Don’t forget to join one of our ‘Behind the Scenes’ tours!

The Peter O’Sullevan Arena can be hired out for lessons, clinics or for general hire throughout the year at a cost of £18 per hour for flat or £30 per hour with jumps. There is also a £10 per extra horse charge for private hire.
The bakery, located in the King’s Yard, serves a tasty variety of baked products for you to grab n go or to enjoy in The Kings Yard including fresh bread, cakes, as well as cold and hot drinks. The bakery also features an eco-refill hub and picnic boxes, available to pre-order for your visit
The NHRM gift shop is the perfect place to purchase your NHRM souvenir. The shop also features a second hand bookshop, selling a range of books for all ages. You do not have to purchase a ticket to look around our shop
The Tack Room Restaurant features the best of British produce, showcasing seasonal and local produce where possible. Throughout the summer, the outdoor terrace in the Kings Yard provides the perfect space to dine alfresco whilst enjoying a great selection of wines
The two closest car parks to NHRM are Rous Road, CB8 8LX (short stay) and All Saints CB8 8ET (long stay) car parks. Please follow the parking signs and brown Museum signs when you reach Newmarket.

Meet former racehorses and find out how racehorses are retrained to riding horses as our friendly staff walk and talk you through their routine. Every day the ‘Behind the Scenes’ RoR tour is different, while you will always see a horse working in the Peter O’Sullevan Arena there may be different disciplines on display.
