‘Little Horseshoes’ Pre-School Creative Play Sessions

We are pleased to announce the continuation of our free ‘Little Horseshoes’ creative play sessions at the National Horseracing Museum for pre-school children.

Running during term times on the second Friday of the month, these sessions are designed for pre-school children aged between 18 months – 4 years old.

Forthcoming dates are: 13th September, 11th October, 8th November, 13th December, 10th January, 14th February, 14th March, 9th May, 13th June, 11th July.

Join us for these free, creative play sessions, designed to educate and entertain! You can have fun exploring the galleries together, discovering objects, listening to stories and rhymes inspired by our collections and make and create something to take home.

Places are free for pre-school children but limited to 15 children per session.

Please note: There is one session on the day at 11am. Please specify the date and session when booking. If your preferred session is booked, we can add you to the waiting list for cancellations, just let us know via email whether you would like to be added to this.

Please note:

• Children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the session
• Please arrive 5 minutes before the start of the session
• Advance booking is essential
• If bookings exceed available spaces, we will endeavour to run additional sessions on the same dates – we will advise on email once you have registered your interest

Join us and meet the cuddly Orson the Horse who will help us explore the galleries, sing songs, and be creative with collage materials and drawing materials.”

11.10.2024 – One, two , three! What can you see?

Explore Palace House and enjoy a mixture of rhyme, song, movement and story.

8.11.2024- Listen, listen! What can you hear?

Come and join Orson the Horse find out about moving quickly and slowly and the noises his hooves make when he races. Have fun with musical instruments making different sounds.

13.12.2024 – Little Horseshoes Christmas

Join us for a festive themed explore and make and create session.

10.01.2025 – Look! Look! What can you see?

Explore the galleries looking at portraits – how many eyes, ears, mouths can you find? Use mirrors to make different facial expressions. Be creative with collage materials, and pictures of eyes, ears, mouths to make funny faces.

14.02.2025 – Little Horseshoes Valentines

Join us for a Valentines themed trail and creative activities.

14.03.2025 – Little Horseshoes visit ‘Thelwell’

Explore the exhibition and be creative making a tiny pony to take home.

09.05.2025 –  Little Horseshoes visit ‘Horseplay’

Explore the exhibition and be creative making a foldaway felt game to take home.

13.06.2025 – Ready, steady, go!

Explore Palace Gardens. Help us give Orson the Horse a ride in the parachute. Get him walking, trotting and cantering. Be creative making animals with modelling clay.

11.07.2025 – What do horses eat?

Come and see our resident horses, find out what they eat and get creative vegetable printing in the Paddock.
