Special Spring exhibition of the Society of Equestrian Artists in association with Bedmax at The National Horseracing Museum, Newmarket.

Exhibition open to the public:
April 29th – May 21st 2026

This year, the Society of Equestrian Artists (SEA) partners with the National Horseracing Museum to bring together an exceptional exhibition showcasing the best work of their Full and Associate Members. The role of the horse in society may have changed but the challenge for the equestrian artist is timeless. Alongside an original painting by Sir Alfred Munnings on loan from the Munnings Art Museum, Essex, will be works by equestrian artists of the recent past and current day.

The exhibition will be open to the public in Spring 2026 and will coincide with one of the busiest and most exciting periods of the sporting calendar for Newmarket, the headquarters of Horseracing.

Anthea Wood, Chair of the SEA, says; “We really are excited to be bringing the exhibition to the exceptional National Horseracing Museum which alongside the British Sporting Art Trust at Palace House, does so much to promote equestrian art. I am originally from Newmarket and I never tire of visiting the Museum and Palace House when I visit home.”

The exhibition is well timed; The Private View coincides with the eve of the Tattersall’s Breeze Up Sales which will see Newmarket buzzing with international visitors. Then in May, the town will come alive to host the Guineas Festival at the Rowley Mile. The exhibition is free to visit and will cater for the racing enthusiast or the horse lover alike. Many of the works will be for sale and visitors will get the opportunity to see works by some of the SEA’s most established artists.

For the second year running, the SEA will be teaming up with Bedmax Ltd, the UK’s leading equine bedding manufacturer, to pull together an exceptional Private View event. Bedmax Owner and CEO Tim Smalley bought his first equestrian painting by Norman Hoad SEA, one of the founding members from the SEA, from a local Newmarket gallery when he secured his first bedding contract in the town 25 years ago. The partnership feels like it was meant to be!

Tim Smalley, Managing Director of Bedmax Ltd, said, “Bedmax is proud to support the Society of Equestrian Artists once again and to be associated with such a high-quality exhibition at the National Horseracing Museum. Equestrian art plays an important role in celebrating the heritage, beauty and spirit of the horse. This partnership feels like a natural fit, and we’re delighted to help bring together artists, horsemen and enthusiasts at such a special time in the Newmarket calendar.”
