We were delighted to host the annual Awards for Young Writers on Horseracing evening on Friday 24 April 2026.
We welcomed ten finalists from all over the UK and celebrated their amazing writing with a guided tour of the museum, a drinks reception and certificate ceremony. All finalists received a certificate and commemorative pen and then the winners were announced and we heard them read some of their incredible work which made the evening really special.
It has been a phenomenal year for the Awards, now in its third year, with the most entries yet and we are thrilled to announce our winners, Alice Jaques-Giddens for her article on Racing’s runners up in the Under 15s category and Cyrus Poonawalla for his article on Rachael Blackmore in the 16-23 years category. The prizes were £500 for the Under 15s category and £1000 for the winner of the 16-23 years category, and this year, winners will also be taking their classmates on an educational day at the races, kindly provided by Racing to School.
The Awards for Young Writers on Horseracing will open for entries in the new academic year, in October 2026. Creative Programme Manager, Sarah Coleman, said ‘This year’s entries were outstanding and it has been such a privilege to see so many young people with such enthusiasm and passion for writing developing articles fit for any newspaper.’
The Awards are made possible thanks to generous support from the Wilmington Trust.
