Her Majesty The Queen has become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

This year’s fourth annual Racing Together Community Day – a national day of community volunteering – is themed to celebrate this milestone. Racing organisations nationwide are planning to give back in a wide range of ways on or around Thursday 5th May.

British racing will join in with the country’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations that take place across the year, including the official Platinum Jubilee event at The Derby at Epsom Downs during the extended Bank holiday weekend in June.

Racing organisations are encouraged to get in touch with Racing Together to sign up and to start planning their volunteering activity with their colleagues. This year’s Jubilee provides the perfect inspiration for giving back: from joining national campaigns, such as the Queen’s Green Canopy and Thank You Day, or by supporting one of the many charities that has Her Majesty The Queen as official Patron.

John Blake, CEO of Racing Together said: “We are excited to re-launch Racing Together Community Day for Thursday 5th May following a challenging two years for the sport and wider society. We know during this time that racing organisations did not forget about their communities and in many cases, even more was done to help alleviate local needs, open up resources and venues and to support the most vulnerable affected by the pandemic.

“Racing’s national day of volunteering is another opportunity for teams to come together again and support causes within the communities where racing operates, and of course to combine this with Jubilee celebrations. We look forward to supporting and showcasing racing people’s creative and enthusiastic response to this call to action.”

The last Racing Together Community Day was held in 2019, and over 250 volunteers from 60-plus racing organisations volunteered over 1,500 hours. Broad-ranging initiatives included raceday charity partnerships, local litter picks, foodbank collections and inspiring careers events.
